Ratha Jatra or Rath Yatra is one of the very famous festival celebrated in India which is rapidly gaining popularity globally. Festival of Chariots is celebrated every year at Puri where a procession is taken out by the followers of Lord Jagannath. It is believed that on this day God Jagannath leaves his home with his brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Goddess Subhadra to visit his Aunt. Hence the presiding deities of the main temple, Sri Mandira, Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel Sudarshana are taken out from the temple precincts in an elaborate ritual procession to their respective chariots. Thousands of people gather to watch and take part in pulling the chariots of the Lord.
