About Gangaur

Gangaur is a very famous festival of Rajesthan celebrated with lots of joy and fun a week after Holi. 'Gangaur' means Gan' is a synonym of Siva and 'Gauri' of his consort, Parvathi who symbolizes married bliss. Hence it is celebrated by young girls and married women to have a smooth and happy married life. The idol of Gavar and Isar is made and every day are decorated with beautiful clothes, jewelery. Girls sing song narrating the story and small incidents of Gavar Isar life. Processions are taken out with lots of pomp and show with idols of Gauri and Isar in charriots , specially in Jaipur a state in Rajesthan. Other places where it is celebrated are Bikaner, Jodhpur, Marathwara and Jaisalmer.
