15 August 1947 is a historical day for India. 15th August 1947 midnight was a time which was awaited by millions of Indians who had suffered so much. 15th August 1947 was the day when India was declared an Independent country, Independence from the British Raj, Independence from the sufferings. It was a day when every Indian promised to make India again a progressive country, to get back it’s lost glory. 15th August was the happiest moment of every Indian as it was the happiest day as the 200 years old battle of getting freedom was finally achieved from the cruel British Raj.

Every year this day is celebrated with lots of happiness, pride and glory. The Indian Tri-color flag is hoisted in every nook and corner of the country followed by the National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana…”. It’s a day when every Indian prefers wearing dresses which is matches the tri color of the flag. Since it’s a national holiday everyone prefers doing picnic or a small get together after the flag hoisting. Local markets get flooded with toys which reminds of the hardship which our freedom fighter faced to get us this Independent India. Different schools and colleges too organize such programes where every student and teachers come. The flag is hoisted by the highest authority of the institution followed by the cultural programe and refreshments.

India Gate in Delhi, the Capital of India, is the center of attraction of Independence Day, as the structure is attractively illuminated. The sky in filled with kites of various shapes and colors. The main event takes place in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally televised speech from its ramparts. In his speech, he highlights the achievements of his government during the past year, raises important issues and gives a call for further development, and even pays a tribute to the brave soldiers and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. A colorful pageant showcasing India’s cultural diversity, symbolic depictions of the country’s advances in science and technology, and a joint display of India’s military capabilities by the armed forces are an essential part of the Independence Day celebrations.
